What Happens When You Get Your Car Detailed?

Car detailing is a thorough cleaning of your vehicle from top to bottom. It involves cleaning and touch-ups to both the interior and exterior of your vehicle. Car detailing aims at improving the appearance of the car paint by getting rid of scratches or stains restoring the car’s appearance as new as possible.

Car Detailing Versus a Normal Car Wash

Without a proper understanding of car detailing, it’s easy to mistake detailing for a normal car wash. Here’s the difference between a car wash and car detailing.

A car wash is simply the superficial cleaning of your vehicle that only handles a fraction of cleaning your vehicle. It is a short process that takes about 10 to 20 minutes. A car wash focuses on the exterior of the car. However, some level of cleaning can be done to the interior to get rid of the surface dirt.

On the other hand, car detailing is a more intense form of cleaning your car. It involves two stages, which are;

Exterior Car Detailing

Car detailing starts with an intensive exterior wash to get rid of the dirt with soap and water. After which special cleaning products and brushes are employed for deeper cleaning, especially to places that won’t be handled during a car wash like the wheels, lug nuts, brake calipers, and lots more.

After washing the car, the next step is to focus on your car’s paint coat, which is washed and thoroughly dried with microfiber towels and wash mitts. The exterior paint is then coated with automotive clay to remove dirt that may be firmly bonded to the vehicle’s surface.

The paintwork can be topped or polished if need be to get rid of scratches, swirls, or the effects of oxidation. The final stage of exterior detailing is waxing the exterior to add an extra layer of protection and add sheen to the exterior appearance.

The windows, tires, and other rubber parts of the vehicle are polished to complete the clean, shiny appearance of the car.

Interior Car Detailing

The entire car interior is vacuumed in interior car detailing, and the chairs are shampooed to get rid of dirt as stains. Where the leather is present, they are deeply conditioned and scrubbed to remove dirt. The interior glass and surfaces are cleaned and polished.

Many people often bypass an important step is cleaning the engine bay simply because they feel no one gets to see under the hood of their car. However, this is an important step in car detailing because it makes spotting problems in the car’s engine easy and adds to its overall appearance.

Benefits of Getting Your Car Detailed

Apart from improving the appearance of your car, car detailing offers a few more benefits such as.

Restoring the value of your car

A car detail restores your car to its original condition, which restores the value of your car, especially if you’re thinking of selling your car. Car detailing gives you a result you can’t get by just washing your car and increases your car retail value by approximately 10 to 15%.

Added Protection

The extra wax coating added to your car during a car detailing process provides extra protection against oxidation and weather elements.
